Jakarta: Canadian Embassy Event on Democratic Development

Jakarta, Indonesia. Right Honourable Kim Campbell was the host/featured speaker at a discussion on democratic development at the Canadian Embassy in Jakarta on April 15th, 2010.  During the discussion Ms. Campbell provided examples of democratic issues and challenges facing other countries around the world, including Canada, which are relevant to the situation in Indonesia. The participants, who represented a wide range of well-known Indonesian civil society and academic institutions, passionately shared their views and opinions on the state of democracy in Indonesia. As a result of the discussion, fresh ideas emerged on ways to overcome challenges and to ensure the continuation of democratic development in Indonesia.

Ms. Campbell was in Jakarta to attend the 6th Assembly of the World Movement for Democracy. She is currently Chair of the Steering Committee of World Movement for Democracy and is involved in a wide range of other international organizations.
